First Holiday Party at Lee’s Summit Equestrian

Posted by on Dec 21st, 2014 in Around the Barn | 0 comments

Gigi ReindeerTable 1 photoTable 2 photoContinuing a tradition that our Imagine Farms clients will remember well, Lee’s Summit Equestrian threw its first holiday party for its boarders, HorsePower staff, friends and Imagine Farms clients.

The tradition includes a potluck buffet that, this year, resulted in a huge amount of food – from savory breakfast casseroles, to rolls, sweets, candy and bread. Thanks to everyone who brought a dish!

Then, the most anticipated part of the tradition – the white elephant gift exchange – started after all guests were rounded up into the lounge to draw numbers. Starting with the guest who drew number 1, each person got to pick a package from under the tree. Or, each subsequent guest could steal a previously-opened gift from its original recipient. Woe to those who were really pleased with their item, because their covetous friends could take it away! The fun resulted in lots of groans, lots of cheers, and ultimately everyone happy with the fun and camaraderie of the day.

Thank you to everyone for coming together to celebrate our little community of horse lovers. It’s times like this that remind us how great it is to have such a lovely barn family!

HorsePower Meet ‘n’ Greet Draws a Crowd

At a “Meet ‘n’ Greet” for the HorsePower staff, volunteers and supporters on November 16, Lee’s Summit Equestrian officially welcomed this nonprofit program now making its home here.

Although the day was unseasonably chilly, 50-75 people gathered with warm greetings throughout the lounge, stall area, and the new HorsePower tack room, universally acknowledged to be a work of art.

The HorsePower Experiential Learning Program offers relational experiences to at-risk youth by developing life-coping skills in an equine-facilitated ranch environment. HorsePower has an amazing group of volunteers and supporters, who proved their dedication by coming out on such a cold day and during a KC Chiefs game!

With most people preferring to stay inside the barn and out of the cold wind, LSE’s furry residents were turned out in the arena one-at-a-time to entertain the guests. From friendly weanlings Rocky and Sully, to flashy stallion Thunder, the LSE horses seemed to really enjoy putting on a show – and begging for scratches and treats!

Since beginning its move to LSE on October 31, HorsePower’s staff and volunteers have accomplished an amazing amount of work! They’ve moved all of their equines into the large pasture, graded the area around their run-in shelter, constructed a smaller paddock for their horses, and nearly finished their tack room.

We look forward to seeing HorsePower fully settled in, and to seeing more of the friends we made at Sunday’s event!

decorated stallsIt was a gray, misty day, but that didn’t dampen the warmth shared at our first open house on October 12.

From our residents’ people decorating stalls to the nines, to the fresh popcorn and hot apple cider – guests got a warm welcome to Lee’s Summit Equestrian that afternoon.

Many thanks to all who turned out to visit, to the people who decorated and helped show guests around, and to the fabulous resident equines, who greeted everyone with their warm, tickly horse muzzles.

Off to Longview Horse Park

josh-val-ribbonThis weekend brings another trip for several boarders (and Imagine Farms training/lesson clients) to Longview Horse Park. The Pony Express Horse Show Circuit offers a local series of all-breed horse shows that are a great place for young and new riders to get some ring time.

The Imagine Farms group has been trailering the short distance from our place to the horse park nearly every weekend lately. The trips have been paying off — just ask Josh about his blue ribbons and the prize money that come stapled to them!
